A racing update from Team 1-800-DRY-ME-OUT’s driver Rob Faiella:
Things have been slow with the 1-800-Dry-Me-Out race team due to some
mechanical issues. We have struggled to keep the car running in the
last few races and decided to tear the engine apart.
In the true spirit of how 1-800-Dry-Me-Out works with the community,
members from other teams came out to help and spend some long hours with
us. This past Friday we were up until 4 AM and then back at it before
noon on race day.
We replaced a broken valve, worn valve seal and a few sensors and the
car is now running great. Due to prior commitments, Steve White and Rob
Faiella could not be at the track. But being the 13th, we had to get
car 13 on the track so Rachel Senekossoff volunteered to take the wheel.
Rachel had only run one race prior in a car she shares with her fiance
Bill Hamilton.
Rachel came up to get the car and we got it loaded on the trailer 2
hours before the race was schedule to start and she had a 1 hour drive
to the track. As she was getting ready to go, we noticed oil all over
the ground where the car was. We took the car off the trailer and back
into the garage and crew chief Alex Olivera quickly diagnosed the issued
as leaking Cam Seals.
We quickly removed the coil, plug wires and valve cover and then the
cam shaft end cap. We reset the seals and then put it back together and
fired it up. No leaks!!
We got the car loaded again and sent Rachel on her way with only 1.5 hrs now.
